Things to Do in Provo for BYU Homecoming Week

There is a special place in my heart for Provo, Utah. Between attending BYU for my undergrad and working on campus during my professional career, I’ve lived in Provo and its surrounding cities for more than six years!

During my time there, I discovered that Provo has one of the most diverse collections of restaurants, shops, and events of any city its size.

Provo is an especially hopping place to be during Homecoming coming up next week, October 17-21, 2023!

Here are some unforgettable things to do, places to eat, and events to attend in Provo for BYU Homecoming Week (or anytime)!

Activities

Check out the BYU Homecoming homepage for a full list of events on campus, including an Opening Ceremony, Hike and Light the Y, sports games, dance, 5K run, and of course a football game at LaVell Edwards Stadium!

Other authentic Provo activities you can add to your itinerary to mix things up include:

Covey Center for the Arts: Center for theater, dance, and music performances, plus local art gallery! Check out the CCA website for showtimes!

Downtown Provo Mural Hunt: There are over 45 stunning murals on walls throughout Provo! Visit downtownprovo.com/maps for all locations of these unique street art pieces and see how many you can find!

Heber Hatchets: Need to get out some aggression? Have you always wanted to be a lumberjack? Well look no further! Visit Heber Hatchets for some good ol’ axe throwing action!

BYU Museum of Art: Fine art museum with alternating exhibits featuring artists from all over the world and across time. Visit the MOA’s website for a full schedule of children’s art classes, gallery talks, yoga classes, and live music performances!

Hike Bridal Veil Falls: The whole family can enjoy this short, paved hike that ends with a lovely waterfall!

Restaurants

Hruska’s Kolaches: You HAVE to put this Czech bakery on your Provo bucket list! Perfect for sweet or savory breakfast lovers, Hruska’s sells out fast, so be sure to get there early.

The Social: This collective eatery and lounge has THE coolest vibe with its original stone walls from the 19th century! There’s something for everyone at this hot new Provo spot – open late!

Guru’s Cafe: I haven’t met a dish at Guru’s I didn’t like! With such a diverse menu, there’s something for everyone! Local tip: order the sweet potato fries and chipotle fry sauce – it’ll change your life.

Bistro Provenance: This French restaurant is a recent addition to the Center Street food lineup and does not disappoint. The atmosphere is immersive and the food is fresh and delicious!

CHOM Burger: My personal FAVORITE burger place in Provo! CHOM offers unique twists on classic burgers and sandwiches, plus yummy shakes and fries!

Five Sushi Brothers: Deluxe and delicious sushi rolls, gyoza, and even dessert rolls! Open late and for delivery!

Shopping

Brambles and Blossoms: Darling antique and vintage-inspired home and gift store. Set in a lovely repurposed home atmosphere.

Foxglove Flowers and Gifts: Find flowers for a wedding bouquet or your kitchen table and local gifts for any occasion at this darling shop!

The Collective Underground: Discover art, decor, clothing, and jewelry made by local artists at The Collective. Check back often – there are new and rotating displays all the time!

Timpanogos Hiking Co: Gear up with your new favorite hiking tees, hoodies, water bottles, and other accessories. Pick up classic Utah stickers and postcards to take home too!

BYU Store: Pick up new BYU merch, sweets from the Candy Counter, textbooks, and school supplies. Located in the southwest corner of the Wilkinson Student Center. Insider tip: free gift wrapping with purchase is available on the top floor of the store!

Moon’s Rare Books: Reid Moon is a local antique and special items collector who puts his rare findings on display (and for sale!) in this shop. There’s always a guide on staff to answer any questions about original movie props, historical documents, and one-of-a-kind artifacts. You don’t want to miss a visit to Moon’s!

Events

Provo Farmers Market: With an incredible variety of produce, food trucks, and artists every week, this is, in my opinion, the best farmers market in Utah Valley! Every Saturday morning June through October.

Sundance Halloween Lift Rides: Lift rides aren’t just for skiing in the winter! Head up to Sundance in the fall for a scenic or Halloween lift ride. The views are always stunning!

There are loads of incredible, diverse things to do in Provo for BYU Homecoming Week, both on-campus and off. Branch out, do some exploring, and fall in love with this big little city in the valley!
